The Leonard P. Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies and Healthy Living
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
Completed: 2017
Boston, MA
This high-profile renovation provides the Zakim Center with its first space specifically designed with its holistic, complementary care program in mind. The new suite, located in a prominent public corridor, was designed using a warm, neutral palette, natural materials, dimmable LED lighting, and custom art commissions, all to foster a calm and healing environment.
The gym and yoga studio accommodate numerous innovative group activities, such as meditation, music and art therapy, exercise, yoga, and dance. For private visits, we designed a consult room along with five new treatment rooms for acupuncture and massage therapy.
isgenuity focused much attention on eliminating the visual clutter of equipment and devices seen in a typical patient room. Sharps containers, linen storage, paper towels, and medical equipment are all concealed within millwork. Removing these items from view reinforces the feeling of being in a private spa, giving the patient a respite from the mental stress of routine cancer care.
