One Constitution Wharf at MGH’s Institute of Health Professions takes the typical open-office model and adapts it to user-specific needs. In accordance with the institute’s goals, this space fosters collaboration, sharing of knowledge, diversity of ideas, interdisciplinary education, and a sense of the unified department. By balancing public and private spaces, the project facilitates workflow and sustains a permeable buffer zone for interaction and discussion, maximizing natural light and views to enhance the quality of the space. Incorporating private offices, open workstations and lounges, the program connects users to each other while providing the privacy needed to complete “heads-down” tasks and allows users to work outside of their formal offices by creating break-out and collaboration spaces.
