Basement Plan

As part of a federal initiative to provide stimulus funding to underserved community health centers, Lynn Community Health Center successfully secured grant funding for the expansion of their clinics. We undertook the resulting three-floor, 25,000 sf project, which entailed the design of clinical, staff, and administrative spaces.

The construction process for this expansion required constant, meticulous organization. It included both a core and a shell project, which we fulfilled under separate contracts; in order to overcome the challenges of this arrangement, we adhered to strict schedule milestones during construction. We were thus able to synchronize the completion of both projects, an otherwise highly complex task.

The resulting addition was carefully integrated; we assimilated the new space into the original by maintaining the existing design throughout the expansion. Preserving the original aesthetic, however, did not preclude us from making valuable functional changes: by adjusting the layout, we vastly improved the efficiency of the new space. We also worked with North Shore Medical Center to develop lab and imaging functions, which helped us understand how best to tailor our design to the needs of doctors, researchers, and patients.
