Hybrid OR

Special OR

Located within an active hospital on the third floor of the Cardinal Medeiros Pavilion, the renovation project provides a new Hybrid Operating Room (OR) for surgery with medical imaging, and a Special OR, both of which will be used for cardiac and vascular procedures. The isgenuity team performed considerable coordination with engineers, equipment vendors, and consultants within a technically sophisticated and challenging space and with occupied OR’s nearby.

The Hybrid OR features the GE Discovery IGS 740 mobile fluoroscopic x-ray angiography system. Wall-mounted laser positioning targets allow the mobile fluoroscopy equipment to locate and position itself within the room. Highly accurate tracking and movement is required by this mobile system; as such, the room’s floor was finished with a specialized seven-step flooring system of hybrid polyurethane, requiring extensive preparation and quality control measures to meet specifications.

The Special OR features Stryker lights and booms for anesthesia, perfusion, equipment, and foot equipment. Both ORs’ ceilings feature integrated modular cleanroom systems with air delivery, med gas, support structures for overhead equipment, and lighting with green ambient functionality.

Support spaces include imaging equipment room, containing chillers and power supply units, and a staff control room. Clean and soiled workrooms, equipment and supply storage rooms, and electrical / emergency electrical areas round out the self-contained suite’s program. Each OR has a dedicated stretcher alcove. Radiation protection lines walls, doors and windows that surround the Hybrid OR space.

The project includes the installation of a new rooftop HVAC unit and connecting ductwork and shafts, incorporating special acoustical and vibration details, to serve the suite while minimizing impact on patients being treated nearby. Minor exterior redesign to façade, existing windows, and roof allow for the new mechanical systems and interior program to function.
