One year ago, the Bowdoin Street Health Center opened their new Wellness Center after an expansion and renovation of the existing facility. Since that time, programs for local residents focusing on healthy living have significantly expanded in some unexpected directions.
Isgenuity was honored to be involved with this project, which added 3,900 sf on the top floor to provide the Wellness Center with its own dedicated spaces. An Exercise Room, Activity Room, and Demonstration Kitchen are the three components of the new Wellness Center supporting exercise, education and dietary programs. The renovation also added exam rooms and improved the overall flow and effectiveness of the busy clinic on the ground floor.
The spaces were designed with flexibility in mind, understanding that the Wellness Center programs would evolve over time. Since opening, local residents and patients have had access to numerous ongoing classes, including Tai-chi, Muscle Movement, a “Fit Kids” program that includes indoor tennis with foam balls, and many instructional cooking classes. Partnering with Tufts, they have even implemented classes to train certified exercise instructors who will help spread the benefits of exercise throughout the community.
Isgenuity congratulates BIDMC and the Bowdoin Street Health Center on the first successful year in their new space!
